Everything happens on one friendly board

Everything you need to know about the word puzzle game, from the letter wheel and bonus words to coins, hints and the Daily Challenge.

Cross Word Masters is a free word puzzle game for Android. Every level gives you a wheel of letters and an empty crossword: swipe across the letters to spell words, and each right answer locks into the grid, across or down.

Drag your finger from letter to letter on the wheel to spell a word, then lift your finger to submit it. Slide back to the previous letter if you change your mind. Fill every word in the crossword to clear the level. See How to play for the four steps, or try Level 21 right here on this page.

No. There are no clues to decode. The letters in the wheel spell every answer, so the fun is spotting which words they make and where each one fits in the grid.

Words need at least three letters. Shorter swipes are simply cleared, so you can try again straight away.

Nothing bad. The game gives gentle feedback and clears your selection. There's no penalty, so you can keep trying new letter combinations.

A level can also hide extra words in the wheel that aren't part of the crossword. Spell one and it's saved as a bonus word worth 2 coins. Tap the trophy button during a level to see every word and bonus word you've found.

A hint costs 15 coins and reveals one letter of a word you haven't found yet. You can use up to five hints on each level.

You start with 50 coins. Clearing a level earns more, from 10 coins on Easy up to 25 on Expert, and every bonus word adds 2. If you run low, you can watch an optional short video for 100 coins, using the coin button on the home screen or the Get Hints button that appears in a level when you're short of coins.

The blue button in the middle of the letter wheel mixes the letters into a new order. The letters stay the same, but a fresh arrangement often makes a hidden word jump out. Shuffling is free.

More than 2,000, and the game keeps building new boards as you go. Every level is a different puzzle, so boards never repeat.

Levels are grouped into four tiers: Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert. Early levels use a few short words, while later ones bring longer words and more of them to fit into the crossword.

The Daily Challenge gives you ten fresh word puzzles every day, separate from your level progress. Everyone gets the same ten puzzles on a given date, the game remembers how far you've got, and a new set arrives the next day.

There's no time limit and you can't lose a level, so you can play at your own pace. Finishing quickly does add a speed bonus to your score, and each level you clear counts toward your best and average times.

Yes. Open Levels from the home screen to see the level map, where completed levels show three stars. Tap any unlocked level to play it again.

Yes. Choose Background Image on the home screen and pick up to ten photos from your gallery to show behind the puzzle. Remove them any time to go back to the game's built-in scenic backgrounds.

Statistics tracks how many levels you've completed, your highest level, your best and average times, and how many hints you've used. The Best Times board lists your fastest finishes.

Yes. Cross Word Masters is free to download and play on Google Play for Android phones and tablets. Coins for hints come from playing, and optional videos can top them up.

Your levels, coins and stats are saved automatically on your device, and there's no account or sign-in. If you close the app partway through a level, you can pick it up where you left off. To start fresh, use Reset Game in Settings.

Yes. In Settings you can switch sound effects and music on or off and adjust the volume of each.
